In 1996 A1 Sporting Speakers became as far as we know , the first company in the UK to pay footballers and boxers for their autographs. Our reasoning was that if we were to make money by getting items signed and selling them ( mainly at auctions at sportsmans dinners in the early days) , it felt fair to give the sportsmen a share of any money to be made. Our two big allies and to some extent mentors were firstly Jimmy Greaves and latterly Sir Geoff Hurst. Our md Terry Baker has been their agents for a very long time and particularly the late great Jimmy Greaves explained that the big stars of the 60’s were often living very ordinary lives in no way resembling the modern sportsmen of today. It was usually £20 per week in the 60s. Since those days we have paid millions of pounds over a thirty year period to sportsmen around the world including all the greats. Pele, Best , 1966 winners, Maradona , both Ronaldos and many 100’s more. We have donated over £2,000,000 to various great causes in the last ten years and we estimate over £20,000,000 has been raised by people selling our items at fundraisers around the World.

Subsequently every item we sell has either been signed in our presence or in the presence of trusted partner companies insuring every autograph we sell is authentic and hand-signed.

ABOUT A1 SPORTING SPEAKERS

We have been responsible for the sale of over 400,000 items in the past twenty five years. Every single one of them handsigned by mainly Sports super stars and all with an A1 Certificate of Authenticity signed by one of our directors Terry or Freda Baker. Originally we were known as A1 Sporting Memorabilia but in 2015 , we sold the stock and name to Icons who continue to trade as both Icons and A1 Sporting Memorabilia. At the time we started to sell in a smaller but still significant way under our original trading name of A1 Sporting Speakers.

When you buy from us we try and sell at the price that is fairest in the market place. You will have peace of mind that you are getting a genuine hand signed autograph . Included in our price is vat and the overheads that come with running a big business and not an Unregistered business that may disappear at any time. Our delivery methods are Royal Mail tracked 48 hour deliveries for small items. Courier for framed items and our postal charges reflect the cost of materials and handling and delivery charges. On an average £5 charge we have average actual costs of £7.15 so we subsidise these costs. On a £14.50 delivery charge for larger framed item we have actual costs of £24 delivery and £3.75 packaging materials so again we subsidise the actual costs.

We endeavour to answer all sensible enquires as soon as possible but our touring schedule with theatre shows with people such as Harry Redknapp, Sir Geoff and others occasionally means we can be marginally slower than some companies whilst we are on the road. We dont respond to messages making low offers. We pay for the item, we pay the players to sign, we pay tax and VAT and ebay commission and ad fees and work on very small margins. So there is rarely margin for further discount. However you can be assured that every item , including our new range of great music items, is genuinely handsigned and sourced either directly from the signee or from a trusted and genuine source within a small coterie of people of high integrity.
